M'lore: Recovery of ganja from jail - warden suspended

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 20: On the basis of recovery ofcell phones and ganja from inside the district jail here during a surprise raid by Mysore division DIG (prisons), Vishwanathaiah, on Monday June 17night, jail warden, Mahesh, has been placed under suspension.

The prisons department officials had been directed by the chief minister to conduct raids on all the prisons and check for availability of illegal and non-permissible things inside jails. The above raid was a part of this exercise.

This action against the jail warden appears to have been taken because of the fact that he was on duty at the time of the raid. No action has been taken against either the jail superintendent of other officials. In the past too, the then on-duty jail warden, Puttanna, had been suspended relating to an incident in which inmates of the jail had fought among themselves.

This is clearly the indication of the "chalta-hai" attitude of govt servants. Checking of such illegal activity within jail premises is the daily duty of the jail officials. Why do they have to wait for orders to come from the CM himself? Both warden and Jail Supdt. should be sacked for dereliction of duty, not just suspended.
