Bantwal, Jan 17: Vittal surveyor B S Prakash and Vittal police head constable Raghav were stabbed by a couple while they were surveying a particular land at Kudriya of Kolnad near Vittal here on Monday January 16 afternoon.  While Raghav has sustained serious injuries in his head, back and hands, Prakash has escaped with minor stabs.

Both Prakash and Raghav had gone to survey the land of one Jayanti, a widow, at Kudriya as per the application by Jayanti. Jayanti's sister Girija too has a piece of land adjacent to Jayanti's land.  As the survey was going on, Girija came to the place and questioned the credibility of the surveyor and police.  When Prakash showed her the legal order he had secured to survey the land, she snatched the documents and other important papers from his hand and began tearing them.

When Prakash questioned this, Girija with the help of her husband Vithal Shetty stabbed him with sickle.  At this point, Raghav surged ahead to protect Prakash.  But in haste, he slipped and fell in a nearby small water canal.  At this, both Girija and Vithal left Prakash and stabbed Raghav severely.  But some local, who were passing by that way, intervened and stopped the couple. But by this time Raghav had sustained serious injuries in his head and in back.  He has now been admitted to Mangala Nursing Home at Mangalore.

The Vittal police after registering the case have arrested the accused Girija and Vithal Shetty.
