Mangalore: Fisherfolk organize Samudra Puja

Mangalore, Aug 21: After various rituals, along with the chant of Vedic hymns ‘Samudra-Vasane Devi Parvata-Stana-Mannddale |Vissnnu-Patni Namastubhyam Paada-sparsham Kssama-Svame ||' fisher folk offered milk, coconuts and fruits to the sea as part of the ‘Samudra Puja’.

Elu Patna Mogaveera  Samyuktha Sabha organized a Mass Sea Worship (Samudra Puja) programme to mark the beginning of the fishing season at Tannirbhavi Beach here on Tuesday August 20.   

After performing the  puja rituals, JR Lobo, MLA speaking to the media said “there are several problems that are faced by the fisherfolk. The state government in its recent budget has also gave importance to construct a fishing port at Kulai, Hejamadi Kodi.  Fishermen are also facing problems due to sea silt from Alivebagilu to Sulthan Battery which causes damage to the boats. Hence the government should provide a proper solution immediately.

J R Lobo made this request to Baburao Chinchansur, state minister on behalf of the fisher folk community.

 Meanwhile, asserting that he also belongs to the Mogaveera community, Baburao Chinchansur ,State Minister for textile and Port said “Today, the Mogaveer Community has worshipped the Ganga Matha for a safe livelihood. Mogaveera Community is a hard working community. The government is also concerned about this community and has plans to establish a captive port in Karwar with an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore. Various discussions along with union ministers are going on to set up the Merridian Board."

Shri Sandhyanathajji, of Kadri Shri Kshetra Suvarna Kadalli Mutt, blessed the occasion.

Several men and women of the fishermen community from Bolooru, Bokapatna, Kudroli, Hoigebazar, Bolara, Jeppu, Padu Hoige thronged to the Tannirbhavi Sea Shore on this blessed occassion.
