Mumbai: City vibrates in Janmashtami celebrations

Mumbai, Aug 31: Amid chants of 'Govinda ala re', thousands of Mumbaikars on August 29 celebrated the 'dahi handi' festival on the occasion of Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna.

National Parties like Congress, National Congress Party, Shivasene, Maharashtra Nava Nirman Sene, RPI and other parties leaders celebrated the Shri Krishna Janmashtami in their respective areas by breaking the ‘Dahi Handi’ and grabbing cash bags. In some place the pots were filled with onions to reflect the price hike of onions.


Throughout the city, the Dahi Handi was tied high up, women groups also  formed the human pyramid and broke the Dahi Handi and grabbed various prizes.

Children dressed as Radha and Krishna presented dance performances. National leaders and film celebrities were present on this occasion.

'Dahi handi' was celebrated in various Mandals like Babu Honey Shop Mandal, Dugdusett Mandal, and Martyr Babu Mandal and other places.
