New York, Sep 24 (PTI): Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor along with his parents Rishi and Neetu Kapoor celebrated Diwali at Times Square, New York as a part of promotions for their upcoming film 'Besharam'.
Diwali is still more than a month away but Indians here got off to an early start to the festivities with day-long celebrations at Times Square showcasing Indian culture, cuisine and bringing together renowned artists from the Indian film industry.
Hundreds of Indian-Americans gathered at the popular tourist destination here yesterday for the 'Diwali at Times Square' extravaganza presented by Maharashtra Tourism.
Ranbir Kapoor, his parents Rishi and Neetu Kapoor and singer Shankar Mahadevan made a special appearance at a concert that showcased traditional Indian dances and music.
Dressed in a black 'sherwani', the young Kapoor danced and interacted with his fans as his father recalled visiting the city years ago and expressing gratitude for the adulation shown to him and his family.
Later, the Kapoor trio danced to popular songs from their movies, enthralling the audience with their performance.
A section of Times Square was bustling with people dressed in traditional attire as they lined up before booths set up to showcase Indian cuisine, music and fashion.
Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director Jagdish Patel told PTI that the event was an opportunity to bring one of the most important and vibrant Indian festivals to New York and invite people from the city and across the world to experience Diwali in India.
