Mumbai, Jul 14: Newcomer Shanaya Kapoor, who made her acting debut with “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan”, credits her parents—Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor—for being her most honest critics and strongest support system as she enters the world of cinema.
In an exclusive chat with IANS, Shanaya reflected on the role her parents played during her preparation for the film. Far from sugar-coating their opinions, both Sanjay and Maheep gave her direct and constructive feedback, often pointing out both her strengths and areas for improvement.

“My dad is my most honest critic,” Shanaya shared. “When I was prepping and sending him practice videos, he was always straightforward. If something wasn’t working, he said it. If I did something well, he acknowledged it. The same goes for my mom. They’ve always believed honesty is essential, because they know how unforgiving this industry can be.”
She revealed that their candor, though sometimes difficult to hear, stems from a deep understanding of the industry’s demands.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’m lucky it came my way. But I know I need to work hard to earn my place and win the audience’s acceptance. That’s why my parents never sugarcoat things—they want me to be ready.”
Shanaya also reflected on the emotional weight of being in front of the camera.
“You owe it to the audience and the camera. What we create on screen lasts forever. It’s surreal—sometimes after a scene, you realize you’ve captured a moment that will live on. That’s why it matters to be honest with yourself and your craft.”
She expressed gratitude for her parents’ support, saying,
“They’ve always been there for me—but what I’m most thankful for is their honesty. They didn’t just support me blindly; they told me the truth, and that’s what I needed.”
Actor Vikrant Massey, who was present during the interview, echoed her sentiments, praising the Kapoor family’s grounded approach.
“It’s not just about standing by someone—it’s also about speaking the truth when it matters. In an industry full of yes-men, having someone at home who tells you the truth is a blessing. That’s what real love looks like.”
Directed by Santosh Singh, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan was released on July 11 and marks Shanaya’s formal entry into Bollywood—backed by candid guidance, tough love, and a sincere desire to prove herself on her own merit.
