Banagalore: KSRTC bus catches fire, miraculous escape for passengers

Bangalore, Nov 7 (IANS):
Seventeen passengers Thursday had a miraculous escape when a state-run bus in which they were travelling suddenly caught fire in the Karnataka capital city's northwest suburb, an official said.

"The incident occurred around 5.30 p.m., when the bus engine in the rear side caught fire suddenly, and rapidly engulfed the entire vehicle. An alert driver and conductor pulled out all the passengers before the bus was gutted," Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) spokesperson T.S. Latha told IANS here.

The intra-state bus was on a scheduled trip from Hassan, about 180 km from Bangalore.

"Though the semi-luxury bus has 56 seats, the majority of passengers had alighted en-route and the remaining 17 were travelling to Bangalore. They were later brought into the city centre by another bus," Latha said.

State Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy ordered an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the fire.

"It is a new bus, which was pressed into service in December 2012, and it had logged about 3,87,000 km till date," Lata said.

On Oct 30, 45 passengers were burnt alive in a private luxury bus near Mahbubnagar in Andhra Pradesh, while going to Hyderabad from Bangalore.

    Rony,
may be THEY MIGHT HAVE THOUGHT NO VALUE FOR ZERO AND THEY ADDED ONE MORE ZERO. IF THE METER READS THE GIVEN FIGURES MEANS THE BUS WAS PUT INTO SERVICE SINCE 2011 AND RUNNING TWO SHIFTS OF EIGHT HOURS.

These buses cannot definitely run 1138 KMS a day except if it is an AC BUS like Volvo and ISUZU. Only Inter State Buses can that's distances on an Average. This is the number mentioned by ministers is definitely not correct and it is clear fictuous.

This is a TATA company Bus and not a Volvo. This is a front Engine Bus and not Rear Engine Bus.
Most probably some inflammable materials were being transported in the back, that is why bus caught fire from the back. Thorough investigation is required. The bus was having only 17 passengers and entire backside was empty, so passengers were saved.

Another incident of bus gutted by fire. Thanks to the driver and conductor for immediate action to save people on board. If the time the bus caught fire was 5:30am instead of 5:30pm and the bus was full then again many people would have died in this incident also. Now onwards people will be afraid to travel in such buses and if even if travelling they will be awake and alert when to jump out of the bus.
