Cairo, March 4 (IANS): An Egyptian court decided Tuesday to ban all activities of the Palestinian Hamas movement and seize its headquarters in Cairo, media reported.
A lawsuit was filed to ban the movement's activities and designate it as a terrorist group after the removal of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last July, Xinhua reported citing the state-run Ahram website.
The Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood and is well known for its support to the group, from which Morsi hails.
More than 60 members of the group are facing trial on charges of jailbreak in 2011, along with Morsi and top leaders of the Brotherhood.
They are accused of facilitating the storming of three prisons, killing policemen and helping hundreds of inmates, including terrorists, to flee during the early days of the 2011 revolt that ousted then Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.
