Indian student commits suicide in UAE

Dubai, March 4 (IANS): An Indian student in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) committed suicide after performing poorly in the CBSE examination, a media report said.

The boy, identified only as AS, was a talented grade 11 student of an Indian school in Dubai and lived in Sharjah.

He was reportedly upset over his poor showing on the first day of his examination conducted a few days ago by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The boy's family is from Kerala.

The student was found hanging from the terrace of his apartment building in Sharjah Sunday, hours after he left his home in Dubai on the pretext of going to school to sit for the second day's examination.

Parents thought the boy had gone to school but they got a call from the school that he did not turn up.

The parents filed a missing complaint with the Sharjah police, who traced the boy's mobile phone and tracked him to the terrace of the building.

According to the parents, their son was upset as he did not do well in the previous day's examination.

Mr. Devraj,UR 100% true. Parents send their wards to expensive coaching/tuition.THe good result credit goes to Indian High school. Some of the IHS teacher open challenges to students to enroll tuition with them only or else u r the looser how brilliant he/she is. Or enroll to sports coaching to score good marks. NO need to present exams too. KHDA should ban tuition by teachers same like Sharjah Education Zone.KHDA PLease closely monitor. Out side show, inside "0" (Zero). Specially IHS.

The blame should go to Indian High School Dubai. Every year they detain 25-30 students in class 11 to get 100% result in 12th std by spoiling students' career. Indian school-Dubai are only concerned about their name to get 100% result. KHDA should take strict action against this school. I know many parents who are upset with this school about the same issue.

Devraj..so sad to hear this. I never thought that Indian High School Dubai does this. Only heard that fees are too high and quality of education is "not satisfactory". Parents have to shell out huge amount of money for education, but the knowledge gained is "big zero". Education is gulf has become purely money making business house. Luckily we have got some very good schools in India which are far more better than these gulf schools.

@S.Poojary,A sad and tragic case.of course, parents want their children with them and study well.at the same time parents should make their child clear that not their marks are important to them, but their child whatever his marks are.and Schools should concentrate on child's welfare more than a percentage.teachers are there for them to teach .not for School percentage.such teachers should be taken out of School.
