Another haul at Mangalore airport: Gold pieces found hidden in compressor

Mangalore, Mar 10: In yet another haul, the officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Monday March 10 seized four gold pieces worth Rs 30.60 lac, and arrested a passenger.

The four gold pieces, totally weighing 1000.130 grams and valued at Rs 30,60,398 was found in possession of a passenger identified as Muhammad Kunhi Cheeri Kundu (39), a resident of Cheruvathur in Kasaragod.

The gold pieces were concealed in an air compressor found in his luggage. He arrived at Mangalore International Airport on March 10 at about 5.30 am by Jet Airways fight 9W531 from Dubai.

The passenger was arrested later and produced before the magistrate. Further investigation is under progress.

Operations were conducted under the supervision of Krishna Kumar Prasad, assistant commissioner of customs, Mangalore International Airport and led by B Prabhakara Poojary, superintendent along with superintendents Lionel Fernandes, Sendhil Murugan, B A Kariappa, H G Yogesh and inspectors G Kumaraswamy, and Virender Kumar and Hawaldar K S Ravindra.
 
Further, the commissioner of customs D Purushotham expressed his deep concern regarding the increasing trends in smuggling and directed the officers to intensify the vigilance and surveillance and crack the attempts made by the unscrupulous elements who are indulging in these activities.

    I was a regular traveler between Dubai and Mangalore for about 3 years.I wanted to continue there for about 10 years. Finally, I landed at Bangalore after 3 years. I feel there is an wide and a large international element(some of them) in this Loby who doesn't want we like honest people moving between Dubai and Mangalore. Anyway, God is great.I sensed when my curtain ped at Dubai with a Multinational Oil & Gas company at a high profile role. What shall we do to these curtain cutters.

    Dont think that other international airports in India are easy for smuggling Gold into India. It is reported that all international airports in India confiscated more than 200 kgs of gold in February 2014 alone.
    It is not Mangalore alone, which confiscates smuggled gold

    From the Day Mlore Int'l Airport started the 1st Flight up to today, From the revenue of the Gold confiscated Mangalore can have a new Run way for larger Flights . No need for begging funds from the State Nor the center. What an IDEA SIRIJI. Can Mangalore Customs Implement. Will name the Run way Mlore Int'l Customs Runway.
