Mumbai, Jun 29: He gets paid to whistle at Kajol, Karishma Kapoor and many other starlets.

No, he isn't a goon on payrolls. Nagesh Surve whistles in Bollywood films for a living and gives the human sound effect in the world of digital sounds.

He is Bollywood's official whistler. For the last 31 years, Nagesh Surve has whistled his way through more than 1,400 films, the latest being Fanaa.

And even if Hrithik Roshan boasted of superpowers in Krrish, it was Nagesh who performed the call of the bird that the superhero whistles in the film.

Whistling for a living: Nagesh Surve is Bollywood's official human sound effects person.

He's cooed for everyone from Amitabh Bachchan to Shah Rukh Khan and if you thought all it is is just blowing out some air, think again.

You need some deft facial muscles and amazing lung power to be the most sought after whistler by the Chopras and Rajesh Roshans of Bollywood.

"I am sure that out of 1 billion people in India, almost 50 crore would be able to whistle. However, to whistle for commercial purposes and to whistle just because one enjoys it are two very different things," says Nagesh Surve.

And learning the ropes from Surve is his 20-year-old daughter Rupali, who's already accompained him for duets in films like Ghunghat and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

"It's like guys can't whistle but I can. It feels very good," grins Rupali.

The whistler duo is currently whistling for the much-awaited bike flick Dhoom II.
