Mangalore, May 26: In a tragic incident, a person from Bantwal allegedly committed suicide in a lodge at Deralakatte, as he was unable to make money in betting and did not get back the loans he had given some people.

The deceased has been identified as Harish Bangera (33), son of Narnappa Poojary, a resident of Guddebettu, Bantwal.

It is said that he might have died two days ago, but the incident came to light only on Monday May 26.

Harish had rented a room in the lodge on Saturday, on Monday, he was found dead in the bathroom. Police suspect that he might have committed by consuming poison along with alcohol.

He left behind a death note in which he reportedly mentioned the names of several people who owed him money with interest and the amount he was supposed to get in cricket betting. The addresses of the people were also mentioned.

As injury marks and blood stains were found on the head of the deceased, workers in the lodge who first discovered the body expressed suspicions that Harish might have been murdered.

However, Konaje police inspector Gopal Krishna Bhat who conducted primary investigations said that Harish consumed poison by mixing it with alcohol, but when he could not bear the trauma, he rushed to the bathroom for water and collapsed, injuring his head in the process.
