Mumbai, June 16: "The Tulu speaking people residing in Mumbai are distinct from those settled in their original places. This is evident after I witnessed the number of descendants who have come to this venue," said Nitte Shashidhar, the organizing secretary of Akhila Bharata Tulu Okkuta (ABTO).
He made these statements at a meeting convened to discuss the arrangements for the three-day Tulu Parba (Tulu Fest) to mark the silver jubilee celebration of ABTO. Tulu Parba will be organized on November, 29 at Pilikula sanctuary (Nisarga Dama).
"The enthusiasm of tuluvaites settled in Mumbai for various reasons is remarkably more compared to the natives of DK. This language has to retain its ethnicity and culture, which, perhaps has been obliterating," he added.
He pronounced that the addition of the Tulu language to the eighth schedule of the constitution is imminent as the language is facing touch conditions these days. He added that the silver jubilee celebration was aimed at preserving the language in the future.
"When we arrived in Mumbai, we brought the language along with us. The stake of Mumbai tuluvaites in the progress of the language is huge," he continued.
Dharmapal Devadiga, president, ABTO addressing the meet said, "The celebration would not end just as a tulu carnival but would prepare a comprehensive agenda to realize the motto of the language. We would bring out the work under the direction of Dr D Veerendra Hegde."
The office bearers and members of the ABTO shared their views on the much awaited celebration during the meet.
