Mumbai, June 19: MTNL organized a bike rally to launched the minimum 2 Mbps broadband speed in the city.

In a major initiative proactively taken by MTNL Mumbai, broadband speed is now redefined as minimum two Mbps for all new broadband plans. MTNL is the market leader in fixed broadband space in Mumbai with highest market share and is the pioneer in providing the best telecom services at affordable and competitive cost to Mumbaikars.

National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012 laid special emphasis to upgrade existing broadband speed of 256 Kbps to 512 Kbps and subsequently to two Mbps by 2015 and higher speeds of at least 100 Mbps thereafter. MTNL is always ahead of schedule and expectations in taking customer centric initiatives. Previously MTNL had introduced a minimum speed of one Mbps across all broadband plans and within a span of six months speed is now being upgraded to two Mbps.

As a launching event for the two Mbps broadband speed, MTNL organized a massive bike rally on Sunday June 16. ED MTNL Mumbai Peeyush Agrawal flagged off the rally. The massive rally, which began from the Nariman Point at 11 am, took all the important roads in the city including Western Express highway, LBS marg, JVLR and finally ended at MTNL training centre of excellence at Powai. 2Mbps broadband speed was launched in front of riders, press and media.

Elaborate arrangements were made by the traffic police and necessary agencies as part of the rally. The rally started with more than 300 MTNL employees on bikes carrying MTNL placards, wearing MTNL t-shirts. Employees with MTNL banners were also present at different locations to cheer for MTNL and riders.

Almost all the leading radio FM channels were buzzing from the past few days since the announcement of MTNL’s bike rally. Few of them even conducted a number of contests. Mumbaikars have shown interest in contests running on Facebook and Twitter like slogan on MTNL broadband and My MTNL Story. The winners of all the contests were felicitated at the event.

ED MTNL Mumbai Peeyush Agrawal addressed the gathering during launch event and congratulated bikers for the successful completion of the rally. In the present world, the broadband has played a stellar role in fulfiling requirements. Earlier, MTNL Mumbai had doubled the broadband speed of existing customers without any additional charges on two different occasions.

To meet the hunger of speed of broadband customers, MTNL is providing high speed internet services with VDSL (Very High Speed Digital subscriber loop) and FTTH (Fiber to the home) technologies. Download speed up to 10-20 Mbps is possible under VDSL while with FTTH customers can enjoy speed up to 100 Mbps.

With the changing needs of customers and latest technology trends, MTNL has swiftly and efficiently adapted all the changes. MTNL is in the process of providing WiFi facility as a Fixed Broadband Wireless Service to the customers who are at present unable to enjoy MTNL broadband services because of technically not feasible (TNF) areas particularly in Navi Mumbai and farther developing areas of East and West of Mumbai.

MTNL is also in process of making public WiFi zones covering popular places like Marine Drive, Colaba, Juhu beach and more. The WiFi access points will be installed across many such areas enabling high speed internet to the visitors. Affordable prepaid and postpaid tariff options will be made available for the customers.

There has been a very active and overwhelming response by public to MTNL’s new initiative in a unconventional way by a PSU.
