NRI couple invent World’s first chapati-making robot

Singapore, Aug 8 (PTI) : An Indian couple in Singapore has invented a first-of-its-kind robot to make chapatis which raked in about $5 million Singapore in pre-sale orders from the US.

Rishi Israni and his wife Pranoti, took six years to develop the robot, Rotimatic, which can produce about one baked chapati per minute.

Rotimatic is the first kitchen device to use robotic technology and awaits US certifications required for such products for the American market.

The Rotimatic shipment to the American market would commence next year.

The Isranis co-founded start-up Zimplistic for the invention, a 17-kg breadmaker type device which combines 10 motors, 15 sensors and 300 parts to produce chapati, The Straits Times reported.

Chapati making can be customised to the thickness, softness, amount of oil and type of flour.

“Zimplistic is changing the way people think about cooking by bringing them a smarter way to prepare food and customers have been extremely receptive to and excited about this concept,” said Mr. Israni in a statement.

Priced at $599 each, Rotimatic is easy to use and can clean simply as it comes with detachable dishwasher-safe components, it said.

Not a great invention! Those six years could have been spent in some other worthwhile pursuit. Making decent Chapati is not rocket science and does not need a machine. Also, the machine is overpriced. I understand washing machines, microwave ovens etc. But if folks at home get too busy to even roll chapatis then that's too bad. Nothing like good hand made chapatis with flour mixed well with Ghee!!! Yeah!!!!
And hey, Can that machine, make subzi also?? If yes, then I'll buy it. Because making the subzi takes more time than making chapatis.

Can they add one more enhancement? Chop the Chapati, roll the subzi in it and place it in my mouth??
    :)

It will be nice if they make it affordable to Indian's. Since this is invented by an Indian couple, we as Indians are proud of them But i also think giving it a thought about poor people who could also enjoy the machine would be appreciated.

In 1990s we got highly hyped chapatti maker for around AED 80, although a bit low tech device. Now it is rusting in the corner. Think that is will not be the fate of this high tech gadget as well.

Roti making machines have existed for a long time. They are not as sophisticated as robots but they have a price at fraction of the cost of this "robot". Yes, Roti ,ay not be chapati but the price has to be right.

Congratulations to the inventors of chapati-making robot.
It can be a very good help to hotels, hostels, clubs and institutions where a number of chapatis need to be prepared, daily. The advantages can be to save energy, labor and time to produce standard type of pieces, faster and conveniently.

In the meantime, let us think to utilize the huge dead weight of overcrowded commuters and overloaded goods on wheels as a powerful pushing force.
The implementation of a new concept will help to save a considerable volume of fuel, generate energy to a certain extent, along with the elimination of health hazardous pollution and drastic reduction of transport costs.

can they step up and reinvent one for Masala Dosa? it would be a tough one as the dosa is one temperamental dish which needs the right consistency, heat and thickness. But, the demand I am sure will outstrip the chapati world over.

NOW I AM GOING TO INVENT " SHITH KODI MATIC " or " URPEL RICE BANGDA CURRY MATIC "
you simply put whole bangdas and some boiled rice in one end and hot hot and spicy boiled rice and bangda curry comes out the other end naturally with papadam and mixed pickle.
i have already a large number of bookings from Goa and expect same from rest of the konkan belt.
of course the curry served in Mangalore will be more pungent than the one in Goa Kerala being the hottest !
