Maharashtra Governor resigns after being shunted to Mizoram

Mumbai, Aug 24 (PTI): Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan, who was transferred to Mizoram for his remaining tenure, on Sunday reportedly sent his resgination letter to the President.

Earlier, sources said that Sankaranarayanan was unlikely to take charge of his new assignment and may prefer to resign.

A Rashtrapati Bhawan communique issued late last night said that Sankaranarayanan has been shifted to Mizoram and Gujarat Governor OP Kohli has been asked to discharge his duties.

The post of Mizoram Governor had fallen vacant after the sacking of Kamla Beniwal, who had some run-in with the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi when she was the Governor of Gujarat.

Sankaranarayanan, 82, was among the Governors, appointed by the UPA, who were earlier asked to resign by the new government. But, he had refused to do so. His tenure ends in 2017.

A senior Congress leader, Sankaranarayanan has been serving as Governor of Maharashtra since 22 January, 2010. He took oath as Governor of Maharashtra for a second time on May 7, 2012 after the President granted him a fresh term of five years.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Governor O P Kohli, who has been asked to discharge duty as Maharashtra Governor for the time being, is arriving here this evening and the swearing-in will take place at 8 PM tonight, the sources said.

Suddenly how come 31% votes is an issue!! barson se yehi trend toh hai! we never cribbed, NOT ALL voted for Congress so far!!

and world over, caliphates and monarchy are there in islamic countries! You think they are all voted to power and all ed it? Democracy ka sahi maina samjha karo bhai! and if you insist, press for every person to vote and make VOTING MANDATORY For all!! if you dont vote, for two consecutive elections, you stand to lose ur voting rights and citizenship or benefits thereafter!
You people stay away, in a country where there is absolutely NO voting right for you, and while india goes for election, dont want to come back and vote either... then you blame our choices?

if, in reality these custodians of Constitution are actually committed to their mission they must accept the challenge & perform .instead resigning is their frowardness.they cant perform under real challenge & professional bosses.it is clear that their posts return by cong. gratification of their favors to cong. during their tenure in certain positions.this is their real worth.

Sankaranarayanan a Kaam Chor Governor. He feels the good cities like Mumbai are for him and Mizoram is not his choice.

He must learn something from South Kanara people like Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya, who is discharging duties in Nagaland, a small state in north east India
