Mumbai, Sep 17 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Wednesday was trading 78.72 points or 0.30 percent up as IT stocks gained.
Good buying was observed in IT sector, while selling pressure was seen in metal and consumer durables sector.
The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,627.21 points, was trading at 26,571.23 points (at 12.36 p.m.), up 78.72 points or 0.30 percent from the previous day's close at 26,492.51 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 26,682.64 points and a low of 26,511.71 points in the trade so far.
The S&P BSE IT index surged by 129.25 points; while metal index dropped by 142.15 points and consumer durables index slipped by 88.55 points.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 28.35 points or 0.36 percent up at 7,961.25 points.
