Mumbai, Sep 18 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Thursday surged 414.55 points or 1.56 percent as capital goods stocks gained.
All the sectors were trading in green and the rally was led by capital goods, banking, consumer durables, auto, healthcare, metal and oil and gas sectors.
The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,573.89 points, was trading at 27,045.84 points (at 01.14 p.m.) in the afternoon, up 414.55 points or 1.56 percent from the previous day's close at 26,631.29 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 27,049.72 points and a low of 26,503.08 points in the trade so far.
The S&P BSE capital goods index surged by 355.57 points, bankex gained by 321.44 points, consumer durables index moved up by 235.83 points, auto index inched up by 323.94 points, healthcare index got augmented by 237.25 points, metal index increased by 160.32 points and oil and gas index went up by 185.74 points.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also surged 122.40 points or 1.53 percent and was trading at 8,097.90 points.
