Goals on agenda for El Clasico

Madrid, Oct 24 (IANS): Saturday's 'El Clasico' in Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu Stadium will allow football fans from world over to see two of the most devastating attacks possible to imagine in club football with the added incentive of Luis Suarez' return to action after suspension.

If the prospect of seeing Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Neymar go head-to-head with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema was not enough, Saturday is the first time Suarez will be able to play a competitive game after his four-month FIFA suspension for biting Italian Giorgio Chiellini in the World Cup.

There have been questions about Suarez' match fitness and he is likely to start on the subs' bench but as he showed in recent friendly games with Uruguay, he has not lost his goal-scoring touch.

Others in form are Neymar, who has already bagged 10 goals this campaign, and Messi, who continues to mesmerise and also set up chances for his teammates.

Gareth Bale is likely to miss out with a muscle injury but Ronaldo has been unstoppable this season, netting 15 goals in La Liga, and Isco should provide creativity to substitute Bale's pace as well as providing an extra body in the middle of the park.

Barcelona travel to Madrid without conceding a goal in their first eight league matches of the season where they have dropped just two points while Real Madrid have hit form of late, scoring goals almost at will, all be it against minor rivals or sides looking for form.

As such the game in the Bernabeu can be seen as the first major domestic test of the campaign for both sides and a chance to see just where their title options lie.

A win for Real Madrid would draw them back to within just one point of Barcelona while victory for the Catalans, which always tastes that much sweeter in the capital, would see them open up a seven point advantage over Carlo Ancelotti's side.

That may not be definitive at this early stage of the campaign but it would give Barcelona a very handy cushion for the games that lie ahead and give a boost to the credibility of coach Luis Enrique, whose return to the Bernabeu as a coach is also going to be the focus of plenty of attention.

Both coaches will be working hard to get their tactics right but the world is not tuning in to see a tactical battle, they are watching to see the best forwards in the world do what they do best -- score goals.
