Mangaluru: Awards presented at colorful Alvas Virasat

Mangaluru, Jan 13: Alvas Education Foundation presented their annual 2015 national award to film artiste Thota Vaikunta at Virasat stage of Vidyagiri Palace Ground on Sunday evening, January 11.

Professor Ramananda Shetty, Mumbai Bantara Sangha president Vishwanath Shetty, Alvas Foundation president Dr M Mohan Alva were present. Rithesh compered the programme.

Alvas Varnavirasat 2015 national colour drawings camp held for the last ten days as part of Alvas Virasat 2015 concluded on Sunday, January 11. In the concluding ceremony held at
Vidyagiri Rathnakaravarni stage, Moodbidri Jain Mutt's Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Pandithacharyavarya Swamiji blessed the occasion.

“The unveiling of Kalajagathu in Moodbidri, which is identified for its historical significance is a witness for the richness of the art. Drawings are a medium to display the talent, thoughts and social concern. An artist can show the world with his brush. Artistes should not only show the lesions of the society but also show the prosperity and positive elements in it”, he said.

Bengaluru's Senior arts critic Giridhar Khasnis spoke as Chief Guest and said that social justice is important for an artiste. He should also have humane feelings together with pro society thoughts, he said.

Adivasi and contemporary artistes who had participated in the camp were given certificates on the occasion. Hassan's B S Desai expressed his feelings on the camp. Gujarath's Adivasi artiste Thejuben sang Janapada song of their tribe. Alvas Varna Virasat drawing camp

Varna Virasat advisory committee's Koti Prasad Alva and Ganesh Somayaji were present. Sharvari compered the programme.

Alvas Virasat 2015 concludes:

The 21st Alvas Virasat for 2015 held under the aegis of Alvas Education Institute with the concept of institute president Dr M Mohan Alva concluded on Sunday night, January 11.

More than a lac of people participated in Alvas Virasat and watched it's cultural glory. The twenty thousand seats kept in front of the stage were filled everyday and many spectators had to watch the programme standing.

Vidyagiri Palace ground, which is termed as the highest ground in Moodbidri looked exquisite with electric decorations, niche lighting and made the moments of culture all the beautiful.

The uninterrupted songs and dances held during the day prior to it between 6 pm and 11 pm were unique from each other and praised by the audience. The artistes who performed in front of large crowd were excited by the appreciations expressed by the crowd during and after the programme.

Dr M Mohan Alva, instrumental in Alvas Virasat, said that he is glad that the number of spectators has increased over the years. “The responses of the people reflect their kind hearts. The appreciations by art lovers has encouraged us”, he said.
