Woman golfer Amandeep consolidates lead on day two


Ahmedabad, Jan 14 (IANS): Rookie Amandeep Drall Wednesday scored one-over 73 to consolidate her lead on the second day of the second leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Kalhaar Blues & Greens here.

The Chandigarh golfer, who is playing in only her second tournament as a professional, finished the penultimate round with a total of 144. She is three shots clear of first leg winner Vani Kapoor and Noida’s Vaishavi Sinha, who finished joint second.

Overnight leader Amandeep had a nervous start as she carded a bogey on her very first hole. However, she played a cautious round carding three birdies on the fourth, fifth and 11th holes.

Her round also consisted of another bogey on the 18th hole and a double bogey on the 14th hole.

Delhi’s Vani showed signs of improvement as she carded the best round of the day at level par.

Vani’s round consisted of four birdies on the third, fifth, 11th and 12th against a double bogey on the par-4 10th and two bogeys on the 17th and 18th.

Vaishavi carded four birdies on the fifth, seventh, 12th and 14th against a total of five bogeys on the third, fourth, 11th, 15th and 18th along with holes respectively.

Kapurthala golfer Gursimar Badwal finished fourth with a total of 149 after 36 holes.

Veteran golfer Smriti Mehra carded a total of 150 to be placed fifth on the leaderboard. Smriti had a flawless front nine, which included a lone birdie on the ninth hole.

However, her back nine pushed her off balance as she carded two bogeys on the 10th and 18th holes along with a double bogey on the par-3 16th hole.

Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi finished sixth with a total of 152 while Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma took seventh position with a total of 154 after the second round.

Pune’s Shweta Galande and Jaipur’s Pallavi Jain are placed joint eighth with identical totals of 157.
