Bantwal: Absconding youths caught by locals, made to marry women they impregnated

Kishore Peraje
Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Jan 27: Two youths, who had loved two sisters, developed physical relationship with them, and were trying to shirk from their responsibilities by going absconding after finding that the girls had conceived, were made to marry their respective partners by the people with police support.

While the marriage of one of these sisters was performed at Nooji in the taluk on Saturday, the people caught hold of the other youth, who had been trying to remain aloof, and convinced him to marry his partner on Monday. The second marriage was held at B C Road.

Out of the three daughters of Krishna Naik from Nooji village, one has already been married off. Out of his other two daughters, Nalini (24) fell in love with Gopal from Kulalu near Salethur, while Rajani (20) was attracted towards Ashok from Manolitota in Bolantoor. The sisters had no inkling that Ashok and Gopal, who were friends, had been acting like being in love for becoming closer physically rather than with the intention of developing lifelong bond. Both Ashok and Gopal work as coolies, and both the sisters turned pregnant almost simultaneously.

A few days back, Rajani experienced labour pain after which she was admitted into Wenlock Hospital at Mangaluru. She gave birth to a male baby but she had abandoned the newborn among bushes near Salethur. When some elders in the region confronted her, she gave information about her relationship with Ashok. She also revealed to them that her sister, Nalini, was also in the family way due to the relationship she had with Gopal.

The villagers thereafter kept vigil on the movements of the two youth. After stumbling upon Ashok in a Daiva Kola religious programme, the villagers sought help from police to make him marry the girl. The poilce brought Ashok from his home on Monday, held talks with both the sides in the presence of village elders, and arranged for immediate marriage at Rakteshwari shrine in B C Road. Former Agricultural Produce Market Committee president, Nemiraj, Ramadas Bantwal, and several other dignitaries and villagers were present.

A number of local women expressed solidarity with the girls, and strived sincerely to make the marriages happen. Policemen from Vittal and Bantwal rural police stations extended support for their endeavour.

Am I the only one concerned about the fact that one of these ladies abandoned a newborn among bushes? She left the baby to die and here is the community marrying her off . Is everyone delusional? There are serious problems in this society.

    1. People are under the impression that you can have sex only when you are married.
    2. Assuming that forcing couples to get married because the lady is pregnant will cause them to have a sudden change of heart and they are going to live happily ever after.
    3. No consequences to abandoning a baby and leaving it to die.
Other countries may have a higher divorce rate, but at least they are not living fake marriages like this.
Parents please give your children some sex education . Whether you like it or not, as they turn into adulthood ,just because they are not married , it does not mean they are not going to be sexually active.
Marriage in the end, is between the partners involved. After the celebrations are over, no one is living with the couple, not the police ,village elders or the local women. Please do not destroy the sanctity of marriage in this way. Hopefully a day will come in India ,when the society actually is supportive to unmarried mothers that they won't feel like they need to forcibly marry a man who is not interested in marrying them and the fathers are required by law to pay child support.
Abandoning a baby and leaving it to die should be a crime. There need to be safe areas like a police station , church , hospitals where people who want to give up their babies can do so safely, no questions asked.
This entire story is sad on so many levels and it exposes the mindset of the people. Hoping it will change for the better someday.

@Rodolf Mumbai, here you forgot to tell always two are needed for this act.One Thing is true, girls or Boys have to think first about their safety like marraige before they have their pleasure. It is not clear why parents were not Aware till the end or were helpless when too late was?Even Boys tried to slip off when they came to know that Girls were expecting. They too wanted their fun but not responsibility.Girl who tried to abandan the Baby was not ready to take responsibility ,may be was afraid of solo mother? Now they are married, although by force, hope they will remain further together .or love has already flown through window?Good atleast villagers with help of Police made them to tie knot .what about their Baby now ?back home ?

In your country, sexual activity starts in the very early teens and it is slowly catching up here mostly in Metros, but my opinion was that how can such a big girl be so dumb so as not to do anything about her pregnancy, either abort it or convince the lover to go for marriage instead of bringing unwanted child and disgrace and humility to the family in society! Therefore giving correct sex education to kids just at the start of their teens is of paramount importance as teen and premarital sex has become very common now, nothing alarming anymore!!

Their 'Amalgamation' however before hand had delivered fruits owing to coupling in a perfect combination.
Goals therefore were hit with repeated self ammunition.

Bro, empathy yes, but such type of ignorance is not expected by grown up girls when they are engaging in consensual acts, they or their parents should inculcate in them the do and dont's before such situations arise!!

In metros sexual activity starts as low as 15 years especially in the higher strata of society, but at the same time the parents are always guiding and educating their wards on such sensitive issues i.e. to take precautions or else remedial measures!! There are so many avenues available like the night after pill or even aborting with hormonal tablets upto the 16th week so no such shameful issues crop up, if a grown up female does not know that she is pregnant and carries it full term it is the height of ignorance and has its dangerous pitfalls so nobody can be blamed except their and their near ones ignorance!!

Thank their stars these guys were around so that they could catch hold of them and force them into matrimony imagine if they had traveled and settled far and wide what would be the state of the female and her kid females right from their formative years should be given comprehensive sex education so they know what happens when they indulge in certain activities to nip the problem in the bud, that is what I meant!!!

Yes, no offense. If all can control their BODY pleasures then no issue of any unlawful acts. All the time not possible for all like this. Some may control all so called bad habits and few even may overcome such situations but not all. As mortals one or other way we surrender to the WILL of BODY even knowing the Spirit/ Heart wills not. That is why alcohol, smoking, murder, ..etc. ongoing in different forms. Mistake happens as the body Harmon's too share their part and BODY become too week to realize especially to 'eat the unseen fruit' that too in secret. As such Sex is not bad this is who people graded for the benefit of civilized living on religious values. One should not judge but help to live by educating good over bad.

Nowadays it has become very trendy and fashionable for many females to engage in pleasurable activities consensually and then blackmail the male saying he has 'raped' her under the promise of marriage!! Any sensible female with self respect will not engage in such activities even if the boy promises her the moon knowing very well how the male psyche is!!

After coming across 100s of such cases, the Hon. High Courts too have have now became aware of this tactic and given some landmark judgements that having consensual activities, even with promise of marriage, and then crying foul does not amount to rape!!

In one survey they have found that nearly 48% of the so called rape cases are frivolous and done to harass the male taking advantage of gender biased laws!! Jai Hind!!

It is very shocking to believe that in times of advanced awareness where such matured women did not know that they were carrying and continued with the same till they delivered, more shocking is nobody in the family noticed the massive physical changes till such advanced stage!!

This is where sex education in the early teens becomes extremely essential so that even in case of a mistake they should know the result of their mistakes and take close one's into confidence and remedial action taken immediately when so many medical options are available instead of putting to shame the parents and themselves!!

Carrying the pregnancy full term and then blaming somebody for the same, forcing them to get married is stone age action, what guarantee is there that the newborns belong to the respective boys!! What if they had gone to some unknown place?

The girls are more to be blamed here than the boys because they are not small kids and it is the female who should be careful when indulging in such acts!!

Sex education is the only solution so that such problems do not arise in the first place!!

In metro cities most of the teen children are well conversant with protection or the remedial measure to be taken in case of a sudden unfortunate development due to whatever reason!! Jai Hind!!

This is an excellent yet a strange gesture on the part all those, including the police force, that enabled the society to identify the two young men who had physical relations with two sisters and indulged themselves and became pregnant. The arrival of the babies is the ultimate reward.

It is also a noble gesture on the part of the community to become involved in locating the two men and convincing them to get wedded to the ladies that they truly loved. Now it is the couples that have to unite together and work together for a lasting compromise.

Having said all of the above, now it is the duty of the community to educate the marrying couples to know their individual as well as their group responsibility so that they remain firm and dedicated to their respective wives and make the future united life happy and worthwhile. This is God's Reward.

Both the couples need Education in order to understand their individual responsibilities, and also standby in all their future commitments towards an united family life.

From now onwards, even the Police force have to join the community to help both the couples to love another and live united and peacefully ever after.

There are lot of sacrifices needed on the part of the entire village to monitor these two special marriages with true love and respect, without demeaning anyone, because they have not only made these couples happy but also the community happy. It's the village that has to stood together and made many things possible so that the entire village rises to the occasion to boast of their triumph and celebrate the happy ending in order to make two couples smile at each other and live happily ever after.

"Dhanyawadh". We wonder how we can get the contact details of these couples so that we can communicate with them and award them with a small token of appreciation for their reconciliation in life, the so called "Insaahn" and Zindagi of life.

Bro, don't you think such grown up girls have blatantly mistaken in carrying up a consensual relationship, were ignorant that they were carrying, and too till the time of delivery, and also the parents and close ones who till such advanced stage did not became aware of this development!!

Indulging and enjoying pleasure and not taking any remedial action, and then in the end blaming the male in the end is madness!!

O.K. Then look carefully at the pictures where the boy is supposedly tying the 'knot'! Looks like he is enacting a 'street play' without applying his mind to the 'character' he has to play!!
