AI offers special menu for Cricket World Cup

New Delhi, Feb 6 (IANS): To lure more travellers on its Australia bound flights, national passenger carrier Air India Friday said it will launch a special on-board menu during the forthcoming Cricket World Cup.

The flag carrier plans a month-long special gastronomical treat for its cricket loving passengers during the World Cup in Australia with on-board delicacies like "Raina's Cheesy Pull Shot", "Sachin's Sweet Drive", "Dhoni's Swashbuckling Super Sixer" and "Captain Smith's Catch of the Season".

The new on-board menu will be offered on select flights from Feb 14, the opening day of the World Cup and will be on till March 29, 2015.

The airline said the new dishes have been designed by Oberoi Flight Services with cricket as the theme.

Air India's chairman and managing director Rohit Nandan said the airline takes pride in its culinary offerings across the network.

"Now, with the increasing number of international travellers on Air India flights as also the opening up of new destinations in the recent past, the airline will include more of Indian cuisine along with the cuisine of that region," Nandan said.

Nandan spoke at a presentation ceremony for showcasing the new menu which was organised jointly by TajSATS Air Catering and Oberoi Flight Services.

"A beverage being introduced for the first time on Air India flights is the smoothie in a variety of Indian flavours. Indian wines will also find a place on these flights," the airline said in a statement.

The airline also launched a specially designed menu card for the occasion and cricket specific nightwear for business class passengers.
