Shiv Sena hails AAP win, targets Modi

Mumbai, Feb 10 (IANS): Virtually targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray Tuesday termed the sweeping AAP win in Delhi a 'tsunami' and congratulated AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for the historic victory.

"This is a great day for democracy. It was not just a wave. It was a tsunami which swept Delhi," a jovial Thackeray told media-persons.

He said the Aam Aadmi Party's astounding victory proved once again that people of the country should not be taken for granted at any time.

"People are feeling frustrated now. This is a warning by Delhiites to the Delhi 'lords'. Delhiites have done what they felt right without succumbing to any kind of lures or pressures," Thackeray noted.

To a question, Thackeray readily endorsed social crusader Anna Hazare's statement that the Delhi results were a debacle for Modi.

"I agree with Hazare's view that this is a defeat for Modi, not (Kiran) Bedi," Thackeray said.

The Sena chief, an ally of the BJP-led government in Maharashta, said the Delhi outcome was not merely a reversal of the verdict of the Lok Sabha election in the capital but went much beyond.

"I would like to congratulate Kejriwal for his victory. He should not talk of quitting now. He must live up to the confidence reposed in him by the people of Delhi."

He should come out of the alliance as present Maharastra govt will not be able to deliver its promises dur to lack of funds. Vidharbha is reeling under acute shortage of water. If he stays with them anti incumbency will catch it up also in next gen elections and they have to sit in the opposition for long time.
