Last chance for Lancers to qualify for HIL semis

New Delhi, Feb 14 (IANS): With only the fourth and last semi-final berth up for grabs, Kalinga Lancers are all set to clash against hosts Delhi Waveriders at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here Sunday.

In their previous outing, defending champions Waveriders made a brilliant comeback to hold the Lancers for a draw. But in the upcoming contest, the Waveriders will step out to register a win and ascend in the standings.

With just two wins, six lost matches and one draw, Lancers have 16 points and will now play their last pool game with an intention to record a win and try and qualify for the knockouts.

Led by Vickram Kanth, the Lancers will try their best to restrict the Waveriders from breaching their defence while their strikers will look at creating as many opportunities as possible.

"I am happy with the way the team has performed in their last match. We managed to draw against the Waveriders in our previous encounter. This is also going to be a crucial game for us and I hope the boys will play similarly with utmost coordination and give their best. Delhi is a strong team and has been performing really well. It’s going to be challenging," Lancers head coach Jude Felix said.
