Benfica beat Arouca 3-1 in Portuguese league


Lisbon, March 9 (IANS): Benfica FC beat FC Arouca 3-1 in the 24th round of the Portuguese football league at the Municipal Stadium in Arouca.

Arouca forward Iuri Medeiros opened the scoring in the sixth minute, served by Nelson Conceicao on Sunday, reports Xinhua.

Benfica's Jonas scored in the 50th into an empty net. Lima scored five minutes later and scored again in the 75th after an excellent pass by Eliseu.

League leaders Benfica remain at the top of the Portuguese league with 62 points, while Arouca stands 15th with 20 points.

Also on Sunday Moreirense FC lost to Academica 0-2 and CS Maritimo beat P.Perreira 2-1 while GD Estoril tied with Gil Vicente 1-1 and Boavista beat Guimaraes 3-1.
