Udupi, Feb 14: Senior Citizens’ Association here will initiate the distribution of identity cards on February 17, said Association president K Narayan Shetty while addressing press persons here.

The identity cards, recognised by the state government and certified by the department of women and child welfare, will give the senior citizens access to facilities offered by the government.

However, senior citizens who wish to obtain the identity cards will be required to apply for the same from Tuesday February 20 at the Association office at Lions Bhavan, Bramagiri here.

The initiative will be launched on February 17 at 4 pm at Lions Bhavan. The guest of honour on the occasion will be district in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya while MLA K Raghupati Bhat will preside. Department of women and child welfare aassistant director Vijayalaxmi Shenoy and Lions Club Udupi president P V Shetty will be the chief guests.

The identity cards will be distributed a week after receiving applications for the same from the senior citizens.
