Puttur, Mar 5: The famous Koti-Chennaya kambala which is also the biggest kambala in the district was inaugurated on Sunday March 4 evening.  The kambala organized by Muthappa Rai.

This year around almost 144 pairs of buffaloes are competing in kambala.  Lacs of spectators, most of who had gathered to see Muthappa Rai too were a live witness to this historic event. 

Thousands of volunteers wearing specially-made T-shirts and red shawls were seen catering to the needs of the large number of spectators.

Vijaya Karnataka editor Vishweshwar Bhat, district-in-charge minister Nagaraj Shetty, MLA Shakuntala Shetty, Girish Mattenavar, former minister Amarnath Shetty, Apex bank chairman M N Rajendrakumar were present at the inaugural function.

Former Udupi MP Vinay Kumar Sorake is the honorary president of the kambala samiti while president Sathish Nayak and convener Sudhakar Shetty are working towards the success of the event.

Gunapal Kadamba, Rajiv Shetty, Gopalkrishna Gowda, Navin Amburi, Sudhakar Shetty, Dr C P Adhikari and Vijaykumar Kangimane are judges for the event.
