Bhubaneswar, April 13 (IANS): Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak on Monday said a committee probing the death of three pregnant women at a state-run hospital would submit its report by Thursday.

He said appropriate action would be taken after receiving that the report.

The state government has appointed the expert committee to probe the deaths of three pregnant women at the VSS Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, on April 11. The women died about five hours after undergoing caesarean sections.

While doctors suspected that the deaths occurred due to the sideeffect of medicines administered to them, there were allegations that the deaths were caused by negligence on the part of the attending doctors.

"Expired medicines are not administered on any patient. Everything will come out after the inquire report is received," said the minister.

The committee visited VIMSAR on Sunday and questioned attending doctors and other staff while seizing medicines used during the surgery.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Suresh Pujari demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident, alleging that expert team can't take any action against the doctors.

"There should be a high-level inquiry with the involvement of police and doctors to ascertain the actual truth behind the death of three pregnant women," said Pujari.
