Mumbai, Apr 13: NDA memeber and Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Parsad said that the government will await the reports from various committees , which are expected by the second week of May. Striving to make an informed decision on the matter, the verdict on whether the government will make all of the internet accessible to all, will only be made public next month.
Prasad, said that the government will most importantly lend an ear to the advice and suggestions put forth by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Mr Prasad, reportedly said, “Internet is one of the finest creations of human mind. To become global, it must have an integral link to local. I am equally proud of the great role young people have played in the field of net expansion. We must give them due respect. There must be non-discrimination and digital inclusion,”
Senior Congress leader Dijvijay Singh on the other hand strongly urged his followers and friends to speak up and demand net neutrality. He also insisted that the government should go ahead and implement net neutrality rather than wait.
TRAI in the meanwhile is working out the kinks in the regulations that they plan on having in place with regards to Internet calling and messaging applications such as Whatsapp, Skype, and Viber. People have been allowed until the 24th of April to contribute their views on the matter.
All India Buckchod (AIB) has uploaded a video that clearly explains the meaning of Net Neutrality in layman's terms and also talks about the repercussions of the Government taking a decision in favour of the Telecom companies. It clearly tells viewers about how expensive the whole affair can be for consumers if they end up at the mercy of the Telecom companies.
