Mumbai : Joint I-T commissioner arrested for molesting woman, again


Mumbai, Apr 26 (Mid-day) : A 35-year-old joint commissioner of income-tax from Gujarat was arrested by Borivli-based Kasturba Marg police on Saturday, for allegedly molesting and abusing a woman in Borivli East. the Azad Maidan police had booked him in January, for allegedly molesting and sending lewd messages to the same woman, and her minor sister.

The income-tax officer has been identified as SR Sridhar, now posted in Gujarat. He had proposed marriage to the woman earlier, when he was in Mumbai in July 2013, but had been rejected.

The woman is a Chartered Accountant, and had got married three months back. According to the police officials, Sridhar arrived in Mumbai on Saturday and reached the lady’s house at Borivli West at around 8.30 am. "The woman’s husband, who was leaving for work, came down along with his wife and told Sridhar to leave the spot immediately. The
commissioner started abusing the woman and threatened her, saying he would throw acid on her if she informed the police," said an officer. An altercation took place later between the lady’s husband and Sridhar. The woman’s relatives called the police and Sridhar was nabbed.

Zone 12 DCP Punjabrao Ugale said, "We registered the case and arrested the accused after the incident. He had molested the same woman earlier and was out on bail."
