Prohibitory order violation: Kejriwal appears in court

New Delhi, May 15 (IANS): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and four other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders on Friday appeared in a court here over a case related to violation of prohibitory orders during a party protest in January last year.

Kejriwal, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, AAP legislators Rakhi Birla and Somnath Bharti and party leader Ashutosh appeared before Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain, who fixed the matter for further hearing on August 4.

On May 11, the magistrate asked them to positively appear before the court observing that the accused had also not appeared before the court on the last date of hearing.

Meanwhile, the court on Friday directed Delhi Police to supply the deficient copies and documents related to chargesheet of the accused.

Meanwhile, another party leader Sanjay Singh's plea seeking exemption from personal appearance was allowed by the court.

Delhi Police have booked the five AAP leaders for allegedly violating orders prohibiting any gathering of five or more people during a demonstration outside the Rail Bhavan here.

The AAP leaders were demanding action against policemen who refused to raid an alleged drug and prostitution racket in south Delhi in January 2014.

Police chargesheeted the AAP leaders for joining and continuing in an unlawful assembly, rioting, obstructing public servants in discharge of their public function and assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty.

All the accused are out on bail.
