London, May 22 (IANS): Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is unequivocal that his club's stance over Raheem Sterling will not alter as he reiterated his belief on Friday that the young forward will not leave during the next two years of his contract.

Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool's owners, have experience in dealing with players who want to force a move away from them and Rodgers believes they will once again "show their strength" by refusing to buckle even if Sterling wants to move this summer, reports dailymail.co.uk.

"It's very difficult to comment on what other people speak about. We have always been clear. The concentration for myself is to continue to improve Raheem as a footballer," Rodgers said.

"Whether there are talks or no talks, he has two years left and I expect him to be here. It is quite simple," the 42-year-old added.

"I don't see Raheem being unhappy. His representative made it very clear he wanted to speak at the end of the season. I'm sure talks will take place over the summer."

Sterling has played 52 times for Liverpool this season, impressing enough to cement a place in the England starting XI.

Speculation about his future at Liverpool has now reached fever pitch, with his agent Aidy Ward pushing an aggressive agenda to state that Sterling does not want to stay.

For now though, he is a Liverpool player and Rodgers has no qualms about playing him.

"If he is fit, he will be available for selection," the Liverpool manager said.

"My relationship has not been affected. We have given Raheem an opportunity to play for one of the greatest clubs in the world. We want to resolve the situation but it does not change my approach to him. He is a good kid who has matured over the last few years."
