Mumbai, Apr 7:  With the April 9 power-procurement deadline in mind, Tata Power Company (TPC), the parent supplier to the city, is busy signing agreements to meet the requirement on a day-to-day basis.

Till last week, the city was reeling from a daily power shortage of 400MW, forcing TPC to draw 200MW from the state’s grid. As the state is already reeling from a power crunch of 5,700MW, the MSEB asked TPC and other suppliers in the city to find their own resources.

On Sunday, the MSEB gave TPC and Reliance Power 48 hours to get supplies from elsewhere. 

Within days, TPC procured 293MW of power - 60MW from Jojobera in Jharkhand, 50 from Adani, 50 from Lanco Power, 100 from captive plants, and 33MW from other captive plants. After this, MSEB stretched the deadline to April 9 to help suppliers to scout for other sources.

Efforts are on to procure more electricity. On Thursday the company got 85MW from captive plants, leaving it just 15MW short. But that was a temporary arrangement to meet Friday’s demand.

The company still needs to tie up long-term supply of 100MW before April 9. But till then it will work to cover the shortfall on a daily basis.
