Racing Club climb to fourth spot in Argentine football league

Buenos Aires, June 1 (IANS): Racing Club beat Aldosivi 2-1 in the 14th round of the Argentine Primera division football tournament to come within four points of leaders San Lorenzo.

Racing achieved the victory on Sunday to jump to the fourth spot in the standings and recovered from their Copa Libertadores elimination last Thursday against Paraguayan side Guarani, who reached the semi-finals, reports Xinhua.

In the Mar del Plata stadium, 400 kilometres south of Argentina's capital city Buenos Aires, Racing's two goals were scored by Marcos Acuna in the second minute and Luciano Lollo (30th minute). Forward Gaston Diaz (47th minute) reduced the margin for Aldosivi.

Racing now have 27 points after 14 matches, only four behind San Lorenzo, the current league leaders. Aldosivi are at the 11th spot with 21 points after 14 matches.
