Mumbai, Apr 17: Power companies submit contingency plans to MERC, outlining their strategies to tackle electricity shortfall this summer.  

The contingency plans submitted by Mumbai’s power suppliers Tata Power Company, Reliance Energy Limited and BEST  to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) yesterday will be put up on the websites of the power companies after they are approved by MERC in the next few days.

Here is an outline of what the companies propose: 

BEST: The entire island city has been divided into six zones and each zone may face power cuts for 45 minutes.

Tata Power Company: TPC, which supplies power to the licensees BEST and Reliance Energy, says they don’t anticipate any shortage in the city for the time being but may resort to cuts as and when required.

Reliance Energy Limited: Malls to manage power by using generators. Residential areas in the suburbs may face 30 minutes of scheduled power cuts. Commercial hubs to face cuts post office hours.
