Man calls cops to confess murdering wife, attempts suicide

Jun 10, (Mid-day): An Andheri man confessed his crime to the cops on phone, before jumping off the Vashi bridge; he was rescued by fishermen and is in hospital

A man strangulated his wife and then brutally stabbed her many times at their house in Andheri, before calling the police to tell them of the murder and attempting suicide yesterday.

Police said Rajesh Narayan (27) had married Ritu (22) a year ago, and they used to stay at Khajurwadi in Andheri. Both worked at different call centres. Neighbours said Rajesh seemed to be a nice person, but the two would fight a lot.

‘I killed my wife’

The D N Nagar police got to know of the murder when they received a call from Rajesh in the afternoon. He told the duty officer that he stayed at Khajurwadi and had killed his wife, and was going to commit suicide.

Police said that on Tuesday morning, the couple got into an argument, following which Rajesh first strangulated Ritu, and then brutally stabbed her many times. Rajesh locked her in the bathroom and went to Navi Mumbai. He then called the police, told them about the murder, and then jumped off the Vashi bridge, but was rescued by alert fishermen.

After he informed them, we tried to convince him against committing suicide, but he cut the call, said a D N Nagar police officer. A team of police officials then went to his house, and found Ritu’s body in the bathroom.

They took her to Cooper Hospital. Rajesh was taken to a hospital at Chembur, where he is said to be out of danger. A case of murder has been registered at the D N Nagar police station, and investigations are on to ascertain why Rajesh killed his wife.
