Kerala HC appoints amicus curiae on vigilance revamp


Thiruvananthapuram, June 18 (IANS): The Kerala High Court on Thursday appointed two senior advocates as amicus curiae to suggest recommendations for the revamp of the vigilance department to make it more effective.

Justice Alexander Thomas gave directions for this purpose while hearing a public interest petition claiming there were shortcomings in the present scheme of things in the vigilance department and the way the entire process is handled.

The advocates appointed as amicus curiae are K. Jayakumar and P.B. Krishnan and gave them three weeks to come up with suggestions.

There have been calls from several quarters to accord the vigilance department status similar to that of the Central Bureau of Investigation and the court expressed the same feelings
