Mangaluru: Traffic rule violators beware! CCTVs may catch you offguard

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Based on this footage, police department plans to undertake punitive action against violators. This information was given by city police commissioner, S Murugan, when speaking to media persons here on Sunday June 28.

He added that during the lat five days, about 30 cases have been registered against transgression of traffic rules based on CCTV footage.

Murugan informed that 55 CCTV cameras have already been installed within the limits of city police commissionerate by the police department. 'The department plans to install 60 more such cameras to book violators and bring down such violations,' he announced.

'During the last year, we had registered 1,05,000 cases for traffic rule violations, and collected fine of Rs 1.8 crore. This year around, already 55,000 cases have already been registered, and a sum of Rs 60 lac has been collected in the form of fine,' he stated. The commissioner also announced about the department's firm stand to take stern action against vehicles which are parked overlooking rules, by making use of CCTV footage.

No use , whatever steps RTO may take, the accidents will remain the same, the express buses will never reduce their speed, the bikers will never stop their show offs near colleges. There is only one person who is benefited from this and he is the luckiest person who got the won the tender to Sell the CCTV's. He made good profit.

This news is sounds good also and funny. i was in Mangalore last week and its petty that people break the rules in front of the police in the singles. The drivers in Mangalore so reckless,be it auto, bus or car. i was trying to cross the road in front of RTO office, No one stops ,even though am on the zebra crossing. and when i drive we stop because we have used to doing it in dubai, cars behind me start horning. its a petty that the traffic police and the RTO does not educate the drivers how they drive. I am sure that if i ask the traffic police chief, he will not be knowing some of the STD applied on roads which is accepted internationally. With my last experience in India, i conclude that India is not governed by anyone, Its running only with the grace of GOD. :) If i may ask the police chief what is his plan of the road safety and how he would like to minimize the road accident. does he have any plan in how many years they want to achieve, i think he will start blinking. :(

What has the traffic dept done to stop the menace of autorickshaw stands without authorization, parking autos near every important location, causing traffic jams, crossing the junctions without stopping?
What about the menace of motorcyclists riding recklessly, even on wrong side of road, oneways, etc?

Just catching a few cars, putting up no parking boards deos not solve the traffic issue. Do something to implement lane discipline, provide proper parking place for 4 wheelers.

With the traffic being what it is - I am glad that stringent steps are being taken to ensure that people follow traffic rules. These rules which are being re-enforced serve as AWARENESS PROGRAMS.

It is a known fact that over the years traffic has increased at an alarming rate. Whereas it was a pleasure to drive in the twenties and thirties, it is not a pleasure any more but a necessity for people in general. However careful an individual may be there are these various factors which need not be spelled out which are the prime causes of accidents and deaths too. It is good to see that in Mangalore we have a good set of officials who do not mince words when they spell out rules and regulations for the drivers to follow.

Various means and regulations get imposed on the public to follow. The present Police Commissioner Mr. Murugan who armed with knowledge and experience is doing his best to ensure safety to the public. On the practical side he has the able assistance of Mr. Uday Nayak who is trying to find ways and means to further increase safety of people in general.

It is my hope and wish that these two stalwarts will continue to be in Mangalore for a protracted period and reform the safety systems.

I appreciate and laud the efforts made by the traffic department for installing CCTV in some designated places in order to nab the traffic violators and punish them on the basis of CCTV footage records. No doubt violations can be controlled to certain extent though not fully. What about erratic, senseless driving by the auto, two wheeler and bus drivers especially the city bus drivers?.They are the one, who create ruckus on the road. Especially the auto drivers, the moment they see any passenger they sneak into the whatever the gap/space available in between the vehicles and pick them up.They don't even bother about the damage done to other vehicles. As far as bus drivers are concerned, they too behave rudely, stops the bus in the mid of the road in spite of having bus stand a little yard away from the point where he stopped the bus to pick up the passenger without bothering about the vehicles from behind and in the front of the bus.Traffic department should stop all these nuisances, violations created by specially by auto, two wheeler and buses in order to maintain smooth traffic flow.Besides continuous honking also should be stopped.Pedestrians especially old people, ladies with children, disabled etc should be given first preference. All the buses, autos must stop their vehicles in their designated stops.Drivers should not pick up the passengers, the way they feel and according to their whims and fancy, there by creating a problem, nuisance and inconvenience not only to the passerby but also to the smooth traffic flow. They should not hinder the vehicles.

Mr. Police Commissioner, could you please tell me buses and auto rickshaws come under the purview of your scheme of strict enforcement of traffic rules and penalising defaulters? The mushrooming of rickshaw stands is a menace. The moment rickshaw drivers sense that a particular area has rickshaw users, a stand appears. They don't care if they block the traffic. There is a rickshaw stand (I don't know is authentic) in front of Highland Hospital and as there is no foot path or parking space, the rickshaws are parked on the road. I request you to stand there for half an hour at any time of the day and witness the problem firsthand. Bus drivers stop buses to pick and passengers at will, it does not matter to them if it is the middle of the road. They never have the habit of stopping the buses at the bus stands - it is either a few meters before or after. They blame the passengers for not standing at the bus stands. But if they stop buses at the bus stands, gradually passengers will automatically stand there. Will your CCTV camera footages be used to penalise these traffic violators (if ever these two things constitute part of your definition of traffic violations)?

Can you authorities define traffic violation in Mangalore. As far as I see it is hundred percent violation in Mangalore there is not traffic educate at all where are the lanes and do the people of Mangalore know what is lane driving. The signals which are now operational the people just take a free left inspire of the signal is Red where are the cops? and the emission of the city buses, trucks and the Autos which ply on the city roads do they not come under any standard.Pl's look at the divider from Bunts hostel to Jothi it had turned black in one month after the road was opened because of the emission from the buses. There is no need of CCTV depute a cop at every junction and collect fine on the spot which will save time and money for the police department instead of sending notices to the vehicle owner.

good move.especially many vehicles especially two wheelers make a mockery of the one way system in four lane roads.also there are may who take u turns which are not allowed especially at ballalbagh. Also on four lane roads vehicles should not be allowed to run continuously near the divider. They should overtake and come back to the left side of the road unless they want to take a right turn immediately to another road. vehicles occupying the entire width will force others to overtake through the left side and it can be dangerous.it can also be dangerous for the pedestrians standing on the divider to cross the road

A good move by Mangalore City Traffic Police Department to reduce traffic violations. In this way the careless drivers will learn their lessons by getting punished lawfully through fines. First of all catch hold of the City Buses will run on roads like Race Cars and also for unnecessary honking and Loud Horns used by them. If we look at the Dubai City Traffic there is no partiality in punishing the guilty. Roads are lot safe. If traffic rules are violated, there will be fines and as well as sometimes cancellation of license. Better to implement such kind of rules in India.
