Rhino killed in Assam's Kaziranga park

Guwahati, June 29 (IANS): Poachers have killed yet another world famous one-horned rhino in Assam's Kaziranga national park, taking the number to 12 since January this year, officials said on Monday.

Park officials said the guards patrolling the park recovered the carcass of a rhino from the Burhapahar range of the forest on Monday.

"It bore bullet injury and the horn was missing, which indicated it to be a case of poaching," park director M.K. Yadav told IANS.

Spread over 858 sq.km, the Kaziranga National Park is home to more than 70 percent of the world's one-horned rhinos and is a UNESCO world heritage site.
