Jaya scores massive win in bypoll, party supporters celebrate

Updated

Chennai, Jun 30 (PTI): AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today won the R K Nagar Assembly seat bypoll by securing 1.6 lakh votes.

CPI candidate C.Mahendran secured only 9,690 votes.

At the end of seven rounds of counting, Jayalalithaa had secured 67,453 votes against CPI candidate C Mahendran's 4,816. Social activist 'Traffic' Ramaswamy had polled 2226 votes.

The early trends put the party supporters in a celebratory mode with many of them thronging the AIADMK headquarters and Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence here, raising slogans of 'Puratchi Thalavi Vazhga (Hail revolutionary leader).

Party supporters said today's trends were a 'precursor' to the assembly polls scheduled next year. AIADMK's allies like Republican Party of India, AISMK and Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi described Jayalalithaa's massive margin lead as a 'grand victory' for her social welfare schemes besides her government's efforts in addressing power shortage.

During her campaign on June 22 at RK Nagar, Jayalalithaa had not only sought a massive victory for her party, but insisted that it should be a 'precursor' to the next Assembly polls.

Referring to her conviction in a disproportionate assets case, in which she was subsequently acquitted, Jayalalithaa had said that there was a situation where she had to step aside as Chief Minister due to a 'politically motivated case,' while insisting that the June 27 bypoll on this constituency was a "compulsion".

The by-election was necessitated following AIADMK's P Vetrivel vacating the seat in May, apparently to enable Jayalalithaa seek re-election. She has to fulfil the constitutional requirement of getting elected as MLA within six months of becoming Chief Minister.

Jayalalithaa returned to the top post on May 23 after being acquitted in the disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court. She had been convicted in the case in September last by a trial court in Bengaluru.

anti jaya supporters have only one allegation about her, that is one allegation of only asset rise which happened in 1990's.other than that there is not even a single allegation of scams on her till today.

but what about dmk scam of several thousands of crores like 2g etc and congress scam of aircel-maxis deal?

jaya is a close friend of modi(not bjp.she hates congress) and will win almost 40 loksabha seats in next ls elections in 2019 like she did last time in 2014 going by her enormous popularity.so advantage modi.untill she is there in tn,other parties are dummy there.

    Ismail Perinje,
Vote share of BJP was 31% but what about allies who contested with BJP under MODI banner, you did not count that, BJP did not contest all 544 seats more than 100 were contested by allies like TDP, Sena, LJP, Akali etc so including that the vote share goes to near 37 to 38%

Aruvikara in Kerala, Congress wins by 10,000 votes...Final tally: Congress 54400, CPM 44312, BJP 34505

Notable feature in this small assembly segment is that BJP increases votes from 14,000 of last May LS polls (It was 7000 in 2011 Assembly elections) to 34505 even when Keralites like all others are running massive Anti Modi bashing & there are hate clubs all over...

In the meantime Congress s 12000 votes & CPM s 25000 votes...wonder why 'LITERATE' people of Kerala are now supporting & voting for the communal party which has not given 'promised' 15 Lakhs into Jossey's, Josephs, Ismails bank accounts!!

Except her first term as CM she has been a very good CM of Tamil Nadu. Best example his her Amma Canteen. She is an good example for all other chief ministers how to serve people. She might be corrupt but better than others who just earn hundreds and thousands of crores and in return spend little of that money during election time. There various schemes in Karnataka such as free food, free cycle, free beds etc but they are all indirect income for those who are taking commission from companies supplying those items by quoting high price than the normal market rate for same type and quality.

Happy because, she is consistently secular.
All secular persons should win irrespective of parties even from BJP.
In the matter of secularism, she conducted herself sensibly.
Corruption issues are there with many, some are convicted and some are not.
Her people friendly policies won her.

Among the women leaders like Mamatha, Mayavathi, Raje and Jaya I like Jaya. I liked her concept of Amma canteen. Subsidized food is a better way to serve poor than free Bhagyas. She is corrupt (but everyone for that matter). But she is a fighter and good administration. Surely better than DMK.
