Malaysian father, son jailed for inciting terrorism

Kuala Lumpur, June 30 (IANS): A Malaysian father and his son were sentenced here on Tuesday to 18 years and 12 years, respectively, in jail by the high court for conspiring to incite terrorism in Malaysia.

The 49-year-old father, Murad Halimmuddin Hassan, is a former Islamic State militant who had served in Syria, and he faced two charges. His 25-year-old son Abu Daud Murad Halimmuddin had one charge against him, Xinhua news agency reported.

Six people, including the father-son duo, were detained in April for allegedly inciting terrorism in Malaysia.

The case against the other four accused, who maintained their non-guilty plea, will be heard in court on August 28.
