Conman takes Rs 70 lac with promise of medical seats, runs away

Daijiworld Media Network- Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Jul 2: A cheating case against a person has been registered at Ullal police station. The case involves an amount of Rs 70 lac which was taken to provide medical seats to three students at a medical college near Ullal.

Vikram Kumar, the owner of Career Guidance in K R Puram in Bengaluru is the person accused of cheating. M G Subbaiah from Bengaluru is the complainant.

Vikram Kumar had promised Subbaiah that he would provide three medical seats at a medical college in Deralakatte within Ullal police limits. He fixed Rs 36 lac for each medical seat. On June 11, he took Rs 6 lacs advance from Subbaiah in a hotel in Mangaluru, being Rs 2 lac each from three students.

On Monday Jun 29, Vikram Kumar called the students and took them to the college in Deralakatte. He collected the relevant documents from them. He told them that they should give him the money as the media will come to know if the money is handed over inside the college. The students gave him the cash accordingly.

The students and Subbaiah were made to wait at the college premises. When Vikram not return Subbaiah phoned him. Vikram said he was at a bank nearby and would come sooner.

The waiting people later found that Vikrant had run away with their money, as his mobile phone was found switched off. College management said that they did not know Vikrant or anything about the issue.

Subbaiah later decided to file a police complaint at Ullal police station. The amount Vikram allegedly took was Rs 70 lacs collected from three students.

Managements of pvt. medical colleges rake in crores of rupees by selling seats to Tom, Dick, and Harry, the only consideration here being vitamin M!!

Recently there was a news that some fake students writing entrance exams were caught who were actually MBBS pass students and paid handsomely for the same, after passing the entrance test, which they can do easily, they relinquish the seats to the managements who then auction it to the highest bidder as management quota seat!!

Quality of medical education has fallen down like anything in pvt. medical colleges because of this capitation fee menace hence there is a suggestion now that all MBBS students passing out should give an exit exam like the standardized USMLE before they start practicing or applying for postgraduate seats!! If they start such an exam definitely at least 50% of them will not be able to clear it!!

This is a vicious cycle producing low quality products who in turn fleece the gullible innocent patients by recommending them to undergo unnecessary tests, scans, and various costly procedures to cover up the money they spent on capitation fees at the earliest, the ultimate sufferer is the common man all because of the greed to make in more money by these dubious medical colleges!! Jai Hind!!

Well said P Shivaram Shetty, get this multi-millionaire. Is there no check on the people who become rich overnight. Please start laying a trap or else we will have quack doctors in the end who will play with our life because they have spent so much of money, in the end we will be bakras for these doctors, we will be suffering in the end. Stop this non-sense now before it becomes a cancer. Jai Hind.

These kind of cheating issues have been taking place quite often ad few of them are reported in media. Educated parents and students - ( in this who are seeking medical college seats ) should take enough cautions when they trust any persons.Cash transactions of such huge amounts happen without a proper receipt - looks suspicious. Source of Income of students' parents & credentials of these conman need to be verified. Though we all know these practices are prevalent in few private colleges, one should be taking utter care when they pay such huge amounts in cash.!! I am sure Police department will crack the roots of this.

let one of us buy a donkey tomorrow. name it as kumar.

lets go to the owner of a private medical college & ask for one MBBS seat for kumar. the only question that we have to face is how much money we have to pay for getting a seat for our"kumar". they wont even ask, whether "kumar" is a man/donkey/male/female/etc.

first arrest that subbaih, who gave thirty lakhs to broker for MBBS seat & find out from where he got that money. by the way how much he scored in his PUC? nothing else to comment.

We need to look into this issue in 2 ways - One seeking medical admission through illegal means and other acting as a conduit to get admission also through illegal means. The entire deal is in cash which means to say it is black money. Hence both the giver and taker are criminals and thieves, guilty in the eyes of law. So here comes the police for theft and income tax for theft of tax and other law agencies. The conman should be arrested sooner and the giver who has paid in cash should be questioned the source of money. These incidents are not the first time and it keeps happening at regular intervals and the media publishes advising people to be cautious. Inspite of these cases being in public glare we always love to do our work through short cut methods. It is the greed that has taken command over their life.

Rs. 70 lakhs for three MBBS seats! Joke of the day.

First of all Subbaya must have realized that nowhere in India he would receive three MBBS seat for this amount. And, in Mangalore, despite having 7 or 8 Medical colleges within the radius of 11 KM., the rate is ranging for an MBBS seat is from Rs. 80 lakh to 1 Cr.

I wonder, how Subbaya believed this conman?

And don't ask the rate of a MD seat!

It is true that this is a case of Cheating.
But there is another dark truth also. That is all these private Medical colleges have their own trusted brokers through whom they allot Medical seats to North Indians by taking Capitation Fees in Crores only in Cash and no receipt is given by the college.
One of my relatives is doing such broker business since last 10 years for a Private Medical college in Mangalore, and he will guarantee a seat in that Medical college but charges his own commission ranging from Rs.5 to 10 lakhs per student apart from capitation fees ranging from Rs.one crore to three crores which goes to the college promoter's personal coffers.
He has appointed sub-agents in Baroda, Surat & Ahmadabad. Now he is a multi-millionaire.
