34 killed in shooting rampage in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, July 21 (IANS): At least 34 people have been killed in a shooting rampage, alleged to be a gang war, in a Brazilian city.

The casualties took place in Manaus, capital of the state of Amazonas, over the last three days, Xinhua quoted authorities as saying on Monday.

Attorney General of Amazonas Fabio Monteiro said the body count over the weekend was "unacceptable" and the "situation had become grave".

He stopped short by saying at a press conference that the police believed the killings were committed by a certain criminal group.
