New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) : The Supreme Court today dismissed the curative petition filed by Yakub Memon, a convict in the 1993 serial Mumbai blasts case.
Memon will, in all likelihood, be hanged on July 30. President Pranab Mukherjee had also rejected Memon’s mercy petition early in April.
In March last year, the SC had confirmed the death sentence awarded to Memon by a Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (prevention) Act court, holding him guilty of being the “driving spirit” behind the blasts that killed 257 people and over 700 others injured , while commuting the death sentence awarded to 10 others to life imprisonment till their death.

Memon is the younger brother of Ibrahim ‘Tiger’ Memon, the prime accused and mastermind in the serial blasts case. Tiger Memon is still absconding.
Memon’s execution will be the first in the high-profile case.
The Maharashtra Government has already initiated proceedings for his hanging and has informed the Nagpur Jail authorities where Memon is being held to prepare for his final walk to the gallows.
