Darmstadt (Germany), Aug 4 (IANS): Bundesliga newcomers Darmstadt have signed German football club Hertha Berlin's midfielder Peter Niemeyer.
Darmstadt bolster their midfield with the signing of Berlin's veteran Niemeyer who has put pen to paper on a three-year deal on Monday, reports Xinhua.
"Peter Niemeyer was our desired player. As Berlin's former captain and long-term Bundesliga player he brings exactly what we were looking for. His signing increases the quality of our squad," Darmstadt head coach Dirk Schuster said.
The 31-year-old played five years for Hertha Berlin where he scored nine goals in 121 appearances.
"I am looking forward to this challenge here at Darmstadt. There will be a number of clashes along the lines of 'David versus Goliath', which are enormously interesting," Niemeyer said.
Darmstadt encounter Hannover in the first round of Bundesliga on August 15.
