Muguruza prepares for US Open with 'positive mindset'

Madrid, Aug 6 (IANS): Spanish-Venezuelan professional tennis player Garbine Muguruza has confirmed that she is in a "very positive state of mind" at the start of her quest for the 2015 US Open in New York.

Before entering the last stretch of the season, the World No.9 noted that she feels "very comfortable" on hard court. The tournament begins on August 31, reports Efe.

In an interview with a sponsor on Wednesday, Muguruza said she has improved her mental game significantly, especially when it comes to the later stressful rounds, when games are as tough as they are crucial.

While Muguruza prepares for the last Grand Slam tournament of the season, and after her defeat in Wimbledon's final against No.1 Serena Williams, the Spanish-Venezuelan will go to compete in Toronto in both singles and doubles, along with Carla Suarez.

Muguruza, 21, assured that her life has not changed "at all" after making it to the Wimbledon final, but rather feels empowered to face any challenge, including being a favourite to win major tournaments.

The Spanish player added that she will remember her achievement at Wimbledon "forever," and referred to Serena as her "reference" to the game.
