New Delhi, Aug 11 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday praised Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for supporting an end to the continued logjam in parliament.

"The prime minister has expressed gratitude to Mulayam Singh for his efforts and other political parties for helping to break the logjam in both the houses," minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy quoted Modi as saying at a meeting of the BJP's parliamentary party.

The Samajwadi Party on Monday assured Speaker Sumitra Mahajan that it won't join the Congress-led protests demanding External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's resignation for allegedly helping former IPL chief Lalit Modi, who is sought by the Enforcement Directorate.

Rudy said the prime minister felt the house was being stalled to thwart the country's growth.

"The prime minister said he feels the end of the session shows that there are some people who are using parliament to stop growth and development," Rudy said.

Rudy said: "At the meeting, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley informed that GST (Goods and Services Tax Bill) will be brought before the Rajya Sabha."

He expressed hope that all parties will support the bill which is in the interest of country's economic growth.

The monsoon session of parliament, set to end on Thursday, has been marred by protests by the Congress.
