Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (KD/MB)

Udupi, Jun 12: The district administration should conduct a rally to create awareness among the people in the city and especially in Manipal on the need for Kannada to be used in commercial signboards, said chairman of Kannada development authority (KDA) Siddalingaiah here on Monday June 12.

He expressed concern over the fact that almost all the boards in Manipal are in English, in spite of the educational township being known throughout the country. He said that  the managements of all establishments should be instructed to display boards prominently in Kannada.

Siddalingaiah said that he was not opposed the usage of English in signboards, but equal importance should be given to Kannada too. He stressed that Manipal was not in England or in the United States but it was in Karnataka so it was necessary that the boards should be displayed in Kannada.
