Mangalore, Jun 12: The movement of the heavy vehicles on the Shiradi Ghat on NH 48 will be prohibited for one month from June 15 onwards, said district in-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty.

He was speaking at a meeting held between the district administration and the owners of the private vehicles at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Monday June 11.

On seeing the condition of the Ghat and the frequency of the accidents occurring in the Ghat finally it was decided at the meeting that crane, ambulance, wireless communication sets etc must be stationed in the Ghat. The responsibility to provide all these items was given to SP B Dayananda.

Prohibited vehicles will be plying on alternative routes till July 15 till the Shiradi Ghat is repaired.

According to the new routes, loaded LPG tankers will move on Udupi- Honnavar-Ankola-Sagar-Shimoga route while the unloaded vehicles moving in between Bangalore and Mangalore will move via Shiradi Ghat.

Trucks carrying granite and iron ore are instructed to use Hassan –Moodigere Charmadi Beltangady route while coming from Bangalore. Petrol and diesel tankers will be moving from Mangalore to Bangalore via Madikeri.
